Willow's Lunch

It's been a slow start to the year for me as far as bento's go. I just seem to have gotten out of my rhythm a bit lately. I'm sure it'll be back. Just had my mind and energy on all sorts of others things. The main one being the princess party I'm going to have for my soon-to-be-four year old.

What started off as an idea to have just a small get together at home for her, turned into doing it at grandma's house (because it's bigger), and then when Grandma changed her mind, it was back to our house but by then we had added a bunch more kids so we've decided we need to do it in a hall. Feel kinda silly hiring a hall for a four year old's party but it is what it is. We really can't do it at our small little house.

So now because it's in a hall, I feel compelled to up the decorations and food etc. We're going to need a bigger cake than I was originally going to do. She wants Ariel the mermaid so I'm tossing between the idea of doing two cakes: 1 princess castle and a small Ariel cake or just one big castle. Maybe I can find a small Ariel doll to put on it somewhere. Fortunately I have a friend at church who is helping me out with ideas. She's awesome with cakes and she even offered to do it for me. But I really wanna give this a shot myself. I'll show the results after Jan 29th!

Anyhow, onto today's lunch. Very uninspired I'm afraid.

On the left is a jelly and cream cheese heart-shaped sandwich with some yogurt raisins. And on the right; some red grapes with a little green pick for color and a baby bel cheese cut with a small flower cutter. She ate it all.

Btw happy new year everyone!

thank you melissa. Creative genius will probably be pb and j sandwiches and pigs in a blanket lol. Who can handle the stress? I'll save my energies for the cake.

Kelly if you can handle doing a castle cake, you could just do it in ocean-y colours (with edible glitter!) and make seashells out of fondant (or use chocolate ones) to make it an under-the-sea castle. Then your Ariel figurine would have her dream house! :o) I'm sure that whatever you decide, you will come up with something beautiful!

I can only imagine the stress. My little one is turning 1 in May, I still have a little over 4 months to prepare but I am already stressing out about it. Good luck, I am sure the party will turn out great.

Kelly, I'm totally there with you about feeling uninspired so far this year. Hopefully my bento mojo will return soon! By the way, I sent you an email with a picture of an Ariel cake I did for Avery's 4th birthday.

I'm looking forward to seeing your cake! It's fun to try new things! I wonder if you can find a castle cake mold? Oh and in answer to your question, Walmart usually has cheap squeeze bottles over in the kitchen pots and pans area (although they moved them now to the laundry and hanger isle for some weird reason??).

Hugs!
Jenni

I love the little Baby Bel cheese! I keep toying with the idea of buying a bag of those at Costco, and I think next time I will, great idea!
