Roses

Wooh, I graduated! This is my final cake for course 1. I have already signed up for course 2 which starts next week. Fortunately we don’t have to bring a cake to every class for that course. I’m glad that’s over, my dishwasher was ready to go on strike!

This time I made a yellow cake with pudding added and I used butter instead of oil. For the filling I used plain strawberry jam and frosted the cake with an all-Crisco shortening. The yellow cake was delicious with the jam but I didn’t care much for the frosting. I prefer buttercream that contains butter.
Anyhow, I am very pleased with my cake this time. I am getting better with smoothing my frosting (mostly thanks to store-bought decorater icing!) and piping also, I think. This was my neatest border. Still, I need more practicing with my roses. Mostly in keeping them upright and transferring them to the cake. They kept getting smoodged when I slid the flower scissors out from under them!

Can’t wait for next week!
